How do you know when it’s time to unplug? What do you do to make it happen?
Detaching from our hectic world is of utmost importance and is only becoming more so. It is certainly not easy; it takes a conscious effort since all those clever algorithms are getting better and better at pulling us into their web.
So, how do you know when you need to step away from the world, or even if you have a problem, especially with social media? The latter is probably easier to see. If there is ever a time, when I find over an hour, has disappeared from my life and it was totally wasted, then I know that it is time for action. For me, that means deleting the apps from my phone for a week. They are already hidden away on the furthest screen but sometimes they must take a holiday altogether.
That is my solution to an obvious problem. But what about the normal constant creeping of technology which in so many ways makes our lives easier and more comfortable but also makes it more difficult to detach and relax?
How do you know if you need to detach in this situation? Sometimes there are no obvious signs, you need to know that we need regular breaks from every part of our lives. Even the things that seem to be good for us can become too much of a good thing. So those that have serious side effects certainly need to be stepped away from. Scheduling a day away from technology is certainly a good idea. Go for a walk in nature, leave that phone at home. Tell your family where you are going and that you will be out of contact. They will understand and appreciate the calmer person who returns home.
