Looking into the depths can be a dangerous business. Wouldn’t it be easier to just splash around in the shallow end? Currently many of us have time on our hands, time to think, to dream, to worry. I guess the most important thing is acceptance, both of the situation and of what arises from it. That can be hard work sometimes though, can’t it? Yet, right now, while I look at a sun dappled tree, acceptance seems easy.

A pair of eyes is approaching and there is something vaguely familiar. The hair too is somehow recognisable. I look with some hesitancy for a reaction from the other. Just the merest flicker would be enough. But all I see is my own hesitation reflected back, as if from a mirror. So we pass, two strangers in masks. Or were we? I guess we will never know.

These times certainly are. For some they are devastating. But, so far, myself and my loved ones have escaped any disasters. For me the problems are small, although when they are staring you in the face they can seem insurmountable. Getting things in perspective is important in these times of lockdown and isolation.

Strange times are upon us. It is hard to know how to react, isn’t it? Personally, I am trying to look for the positives in the whole situation, remain active, and keep my moods under control. That last one is not always easy, just ask my poor wife. So I have got to find some way to cope with this lockdown. Working from home has always been my dream, but it’s a bit different when the whole family is there too, and you are restricted in your movements in the outside world.

It is seemingly a contradiction, since most runners seem to dread the approach of winter, but I seem to find a strange pleasure in it. I am now in my second season of winter running and I take much more pleasure in it than at any other time of the year. If you are a runner, do you feel the same?
