Daily Prompt: Promises

Promises are like cherry blossoms, beautiful but fleeting. A promise made in one moment means nothing without the following action. Do you make promises, but never keep them? I do. The promises I rarely keep are those to myself. Don’t get angry. Don’t continue arguments, after the other person has left the room. Don’t have political debates on twitter, there is no winner. Maybe it is time to make less promises, but action the ones I do make. No New Year’s resolutions, just be more resolute.

Daily Prompt: Flattery

Flattery is a wonderful thing. Everyone likes to be told they are good at something. Is there anything nicer than getting a like on your blog post or photograph? Yes, a comment is even better. I am new to blogging and being noticed and appreciated feels amazing. Of course, this can’t be the reason for what you are doing, but…

When flattery goes wrong, is when it is directed at oneself. This seems to be becoming more and more common these days. What is a selfie, if not self flattery? It is amazing how many Instagram accounts just contain one self portrait after another. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think I am that interesting. But, hopefully, what I think is.

So why not spend your time flattering other people? Or maybe even show some appreciation for the world around you. Not just what is in the mirror.

Daily Prompt: Breakthrough

The moment of enlightenment. Not in a spiritual sense, but as a sense of realisation. The realisation of what is important, what is meaningful. Maybe, it took me a long time. But my breakthrough came when I saw my son for the first time. That is when I realised what was important, at least to me. Not everyone needs children, we are all on a different journey. I just know that the path I was following was meandering; fun but meandering. Until, first my wife and then my children entered my world.

Disagree

Agree to disagree. One of the most common of phrases. But also the most common of excuses for doing nothing. I can turn a blind eye, or let bygones be bygones, more than most. I really do not hold grudges. Can I think of anymore clichés? But only if no harm is being caused by the other opinion. If I see it as harmful, I am like a dog with a bone, there’s another one! I can’t help but try to sway the other person away from, what I consider, the dark side. Whether it be a debate on medicine, the environment or, god forbid, religion. Believe what you want, I really don’t care. Just don’t hurt anyone else with what you believe. Be careful with what you think. Or maybe, just think.

Pretend

I love watching my children use their imagination. When you are a child, life is a game. It is a shame so many of us lose that. There is no limit to where they can go and what they can do. Because in their mind, they are free. One minute a fireman saving lives, the next minute a racing driver enjoying the thrill of the drive. I dread the day that they lose that, but maybe they won’t have too. Maybe they can keep it forever. Fingers crossed!
